Punjab State Elecy. Board is a premier Organization in the field of Sports. Since its inception in Febrary 1959. PSEB has recruited Out-Standing Sports Persons after providing them every type of facility they have brought laurel not only to PSEB but as well as to the State and Country also. All this has become possible due to the liberal policy adopted by the Board to promote Sports activities. The Sports cell has been created by PSEB in 1974 for the smooth running of sports where in following officers/officials are working:-Sh. Virdavinder Singh, Dy. Director/Sports.

The above cited Officers/Officials organizes various PSEB Teams and also makes efforts for maintaining the standard of PSEB Teams to compete with other teams of different departments/various clubs by recruiting / inducting outstanding and young blood players. In addition to this, the players are being imparted training in a modern and scientific way so that they are in a position to participate in All India Elecy. Sports Control Board Tournaments. All India Invitational and Memorial Tournaments, State and National Champion-Ships with the result that Punjab State Elecy. Board is overall champion of All India Elecy. Sports Control Board since 1980 continuously.
The Punjab State Elecy. Board has formulated Sports policy for recruitment, promotion, grant of incentives, TA/DA to PSEB teams and other facilities to out-standing sports persons vide O/O/13/Sports/L/E-14 dt. 20-06-03 and amended vide office order no. 8/Sports/L/E-14 dt. 17-02-2006. Previously PSEB recruited 80 No. sports persons on contract basis into various PSEB teams i.e. Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Lawn-Tenis, Volley ball and Wrestling. Now, Board has sanctioned 127 No. posts for the induction of outstanding Sports persons into various PSEB teams i.e. Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Lawn-Tenis, Volley ball, Wrestling, Kabaddi and Table-Tennis on contract basis. The induction of players is under process.

HEAD QUARTER CONVENORS & CO-CONVENORS OF VARIOUS PSEB TEAMS:-

The Punjab State Elecy. Board has fixed the Headquarter of various PSEB Teams keeping in view the availability of talent, infrastructure, training and other facilities for PSEB Teams so that better control and co-ordination can be maintained on PSEB Teams.

The Sports council has nominated officers as conveners & co-conveners with various PSEB Teams, the detail of which is as under:-

PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIP TO WARDS OF PSEB EMPLOYEES.

The PSEB also provides 10 No’s scholarship @ Rs 6000/- per child per annum to the wards of PSEB Employees who shown remarkable performance in the field of Sports.

ANNUAL BUDGET:-

The Budget for the year 2007-08 has been allotted as Rs. 25.00 lac out of which expenditure for conducting Annual Sports, expenditure on A/C of hosting of Inter Boards Tournaments allotted by the All India Elecy. Control Board, exp. for mtc of grounds (A/C Head 74.301/303) expenditure for providing kit and Track suits to the players of various PSEB Teams, (A/C head 76.190), expenditure on purchase of sports material (A/C head 76.190) and expenditure for providing incentives to the players (A/C Head 75.183) and payment of entry/affiliation fees to the various Associations and Federations etc. (A/C head 75.762)

REGARDING WORKING OF PSEB SPORTS COUNCIL:-

The function of PSEB Sports Council is to hold PSEB annual Sports meet, hosting of inter Board Tournament allotted by the All India Elecy. Sports Control Board and to co-ordinate its activities on this occasion with the programme of Sports Section. The Administrative Member/Member Incharge Sports, Secretary/Board and Dy. Director/Sports are nominated as President, Secretary and Convener respectively of this council.

REGARDING AFFILIATION OF VARIOUS GAMES OF PSEB WITH VARIOUS ASSOCIATIONS FEDERATIONS.

PSEB is having Affiliation with All India Elecy. Sports Control Board, Amateur Athletic Federation of India, Punjab Amateur Athletic Association, Punjab Basketball Association, Punjab Cycling Association, Punjab Football Association, PEPSU Hockey Association, Kabaddi Circle Style Federation of India, Punjab Power Lifting Association, Punjab Table Tennis Association, Punjab Volleyball Association, Punjab Boxing Association and Punjab Badminton Association etc.

REGARDING NEWLY CONSTRUCTED PSEB SPORTS COMPLEX:-

The Board has constructed its new sports complex near 23 No. phatak, inauguration of which was done by Hon`ble Chairman on 21/10/05. In this sports complex grounds for various games has been constructed i.e. basketball, volley ball, hockey, football, kabaddi and athletics. In Board’s officers club situated at PC-1 synthetic lawn tennis court, indoor wooden badminton hall, billiard and pool table, table tennis and bridge have been arranged. In addition to this an air conditioned gymnasium having modern machinery has also been constructed.

No sports person has been appointed in any PSEB team after the year 1997. As per new sports policy of the Board formulated vide O/O No 8/Sports Policy dt. 17/02/06, new players are recruited into various PSEB teams on contract basis for one year after one year the contract of the players who does not show good performance in their game is annulled and new players are appointed on their places.

By Participating and showing remarkable performance in invitational, Memorial Tournaments at National and Inter-National level, the Board’s Players and Teams are giving enough publicity to the PSEB in print and electronic media at National and Inter-National Net-work.
